Vaccine Hesitancy

Along with Climate Change, another extreme threat to the human race is vaccine hesitancy. Now, what is vaccine hesitancy? As defined by the World Health Organization, vaccine hesitancy is “the reluctance or refusal to vaccinate despite the availability of vaccines”. This does not mean not taking vaccines because one doesn’t have access to them, it is the refusal DESPITE having access. Vaccines are one of the most effective ways of preventing diseases and play an important role in herd immunity. Herd immunity is the indirect protection from a disease when enough people are immune; not every person has to be immune but the fact that the majority of the community is immune means that it is unlikely for the disease to be passed and spread easily.
