On Job Searching While Autistic and Those Pesky Personality Tests

Rainbow Road: One Autistic Woman’s Journey Through Life

This is why I couldn’t get a real paying job until I was 22. I tried desperately to find a part-time retail job during my community college days. Working in food service jobs are out of the question for me because of my multiple food allergies.

No matter how many times I tried applying, I kept getting ghosted by these companies. I believe these tests are the reason for that. One time I actually got an email from Sears saying that I failed the personality/What Would You Do? (wwyd) test. I was like WTF!

These “personality”/“wwyd” tests are discriminatory to disabled and ND folks and should be either banned or at the very least revised under the ADA, which prevents discrimination against employers from not hiring you based on disability.
