新年快乐! (pronounced: sshin-nyen kwhy-ler) Happy Lunar new year everyone! It’s the year of the ox. I hope you had a great time. In Chinese culture, the festival marks the end of the winter and the beginning of spring. A new start of the season.

For those who don’t know, I’m actually of Chinese descent, I was born and raised in the Netherlands, but both of my parents are Chinese immigrants. Where I live, Lunar New Year doesn’t get celebrated. Even in my family, we don’t really celebrate it as elaborate as most people. Just a nice at-home dinner with the family (usually hotpot and noodles) and we give each other red envelopes filled with money. That’s it. No lanterns or dancing dragons.
