Lydia’s Art and Heart

Today I want to feature the artwork of Lydia Kingsbury. She is ten years old and has autism. She loves Pokémon and uses reference pictures to draw her lovely creations. Her personality really comes out in her work. You can see more of her drawings on Instagram @lydiasautismnartwork
I chose to share a picture she drew of a whale. Her mother shared the following story:
“After talking to Lydia over the weekend about how whales were almost hunted into extinction she strongly objected to her teacher watching the popular sea shanty song Wellerman about whale hunting on the class computer. When you think about it if someone sang about killing people we’d find it deeply offensive yet we find a song about the killing of a majestic creature nice to listen to.”
