What in the World Do AI Machines Want?

A common refrain is that in the future artificial intelligence (AI) will achieve singularity. The problem is it’s already here. Problematically, it is in the hands of corporations and it is already disruptive. Not content with audience survey’s digital model, businesses and nefarious foreign entities uses for AI are to spy on our wanderings around the Internet, micro-target us for advertising, by our government for spying, and collecting our private information from social media without permission. This is serious for many reasons, including bias of programmers and traditional prejudices, problematic deficit in ability to get to AI follow intent of directions, and the persistent problem effective communication between human and AI once put into action. Although there is talk of killer robots or industrial robots pushing human labor off manufacturing floors, there is never any discussion of educational opportunities for those displaced, training or internships in any of the number…
